DEUTER - pronounced "doy-ter" - has over 100 years in the backpack business. That is more than any other backpack brand, and is represented in over 45 countries worldwide!! So why are you not carrying one?
Headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, Deuter established a US subsidiary in Longmont, Colorado in 2001. Over the past few years Deuter USA has made a big splash in the US market. Today in 2007, Deuter USA boasts nearly 500 specialty accounts and has been recognized by retailers as one of the top five backpack brands in the industry. No matter what outdoor sports you are doing or to which country you are traveling, Deuter packs will always be reliable companions for your activities. Deuter means ventilation....with five back systems perfectly suited for a specific purpose, Deuter guarantees optimum ventilation. In 1984 Deuter introduced the Aircomfort backsystem, which has revolutionized the hiking pack market.

Deuter was the first to introduce 3-sided ventilation, as well as the first to integrate a back protection shield into active sports packs. The Deuter Timeline
- 1898 - Hans Deuter converted the old Compressed Yeast Works in Augsburg, GM into a factory to manufacture sails, sacks and tarpaulins.
- 1900 - Hans Deuter was commissioned to supply the Royal Bavarian Post Office with postage bags and mail sacks.
- 1919 - Luggage and leather goods were added to the company's product range.
- 1934 - "Tauern" rucksacks proved their worth on an expedition to the Himalayans.
- 1953 - Mountaineer Hermann Buhl became the first man to conquer Nanga Parbat (8,125m). Deuter provided the rucksacks, bags and tents.
- 1985 - AIRCOMFORT mesh systems are tested and patented, and thereby begins a revolution in the daypack market. Hohenstein Laboratory tests prove the Aircomfort system reduces perspiration by up to 25%, lowers heart rate and skin temperature substantially over a normal closed back carrying system.
- 1990's - Deuter has continued growth in international sales in the specialized rucksack division, tripling sales in the last ten years.
- 1990 - Deuter introduces its most successful hiking series the Futura line. The Futura series sets the standards for ventilation in the technical day and hiking packs category.
- 1991 - AIRSTRIPES system introduced together with the first rucksack to be specifically designed for mountain biking and specialty cycling. The AIRSTRIPES system is comprised of an air cushion when activated by movements of the body pumps fresh air through to keep the wearer's back cool and dry. Tests conducted by Gabriel L&T at the University of Erlangen prove that Aircomfort reduces heat build up by 5c and reduces perspiration by up to 15% as compared to standard backpacks.
- 1991 - A full line up of child carriers and kids specific packs are introduced to the Deuter line up.
- 1995 - Deuter receives the coveted TUV certification (Germany's consumer safety and testing authority) for their line of child carriers.
- 2001 - Deuter establishes a new subsidiary in the United States; Deuter USA Inc.
- 2002 - The multi-sport, multi-functional AC Lite series is introduced to the Deuter line.
- 2003 - Deuter selects Source (Israel) reservoirs for use in their hydration and bike packs.
- 2003 - The KangaKid is introduced, combining the first functional daypack with an integrated child carrier.
- 2004 - Deuter introduces the ACT Lite series, a lighter weight fully featured technical pack.
- 2005 - At the Winter Outdoor Retailer Show, Deuter introduced a new line of Snowsport packs, featuring a back protector shield, the first of its kind in the industry and certified and approved by the TUV.
- 2005 - Deuter USA currently provides its packs to over 500 specialty retail stores in the USA, 285 outdoor stores and 225 independent bike dealers.
- 2005 - A complete line of Women's Specific packs is unveiled. Deuter now has SL models in every category in the line.
- 2006 - Deuter introduces a lightweight version of the Futura Line and Aircontact Line in the new Zero Series.
- 2006 - The commitment to technology continues with the birth of Deuter's Dry Shield line, a robust water tight, seam welded pack line.
- September of 2006 - Deuter is purchased by Schwan-Stabilo, a family owned German Company. Schwan-Stabilo has formed a new division, Outdoor-Business, in which Deuter will be the initial company.
- 2007 - Deuter launches new protector ski packs and technology that is unlike anything the industry has ever seen. Once again it is Deuter who raises the bar.
