Our Favorites, Friends, and Partners

At CCOutdoorStore.com, we want to help make a memorable outdoor experience for every customer by helping them find the right gear and equipment for their adventure. We value the work of the many organizations and individuals who protect, preserve, guide, and educate to make the outdoors a better and safer place to play. Below is a list of some of our favorite organizations, many of which get financial support from us and/or our employees.

Some of these groups have even helped spread the word about CCOutdoorStore.com. We are humbly honored to have their support.

If you would like for your organization to be considered for this list, please contact us.

Non-Profit Organizations and Outdoor Clubs

  • Appalachian Mountain Club - Since 1876, AMC has promoted the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of the Appalachian region. The AMC offers over 8,000 trips each year, from local chapter activities to major excursions worldwide, for every ability level and outdoor interest – from hiking and climbing to paddling to snowshoeing and skiing. The Club also operates AMC Lodges, Huts, Full-Service Camps, Cabins, Shelters and Campgrounds that serve over 150,000 guests each year. Each AMC Destination is a model for environmental education and stewardship.

  • Appalachian Trail Conservancy - The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to the preservation and management of the natural, scenic, historic, and rural resources associated with the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in order to provide primitive outdoor-recreation and educational opportunities for Trail visitors.

  • Green Mountain Club - Based just down the road from us in Waterbury, VT, the Green Mountain Club and its 9500 plus members around the country share a love for hiking and a commitment to preserving and protecting Vermont’s Long Trail network for future generations. The GMC’s mission is to maintain, manage, and protect the 273 mile Long Trail and its side trails. 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of America’s oldest long distance trail.

  • Leave No Trace - The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors by all people, worldwide.

  • National Park Conservation Association - When current owners Reed and Maureen moved from California to Vermont, they took the opportunity to take some time off and visit as many National Parks as they could. What amazing treasures we have in our own back yard! The NPCA actively advocates for our Parks through fundraising, education, and volunteer projects. With the help of volunteers and park partners, this non-profit works to safeguard the nearly 400 sites in the NP system. But their work doesn’t stop there. Tribes, local governments, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individual citizens ask for their help in revitalizing their communities, preserving local history, celebrating local heritage, and creating close to home opportunities for kids and families to get outside, be active, and have fun.

  • SCARAB - Southern California Adventure Racing Buddies (SCARAB) is a club for Southern California adventure racers of all levels to meet teammates, train together and exchange the latest tips, techniques and event schedules. With over 2,600 members, SCARAB is the largest adventure racing club in the world, and the best resource for Southern Californians interested in adventure racing, from sprint to expedition races.

  • Sierra Club - Since 1892, the Sierra Club has been working to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself. It is the oldest, largest, and one of the most influential grassroots environmental organizations in the United States. Their founder, John Muir, appears on the back of the California quarter.

Travel Services and Outdoor Education

  • Boss, Inc. - At BOSS, they teach you how to survive with technique, not technology. They place an emphasis on the skills that can provide shelter, water, fire, food, clothing, etc. without the need to carry a 60-pound backpack. As the saying goes, 'Know more, carry less'. Located in Boulder, CO, they cater to all ages and offer a wide range of courses.

  • Boundless Journeys - Just down the road from us in Stowe, Vermont, Boundless Journeys knows that the experience doesn’t begin and end on the trail. Perhaps you've heard the phrase "it's the little things that make the biggest difference." They start with our love and appreciation of the world's most breathtaking and interesting destinations. They interject the elements of adventure and activity that stimulate our souls and enliven our minds. Whether you are looking for a challenging physical expedition or enjoy a balanced approach combining active leisurely exploration, Boundless Journeys has a trip to match your sense of adventure.

  • Country Walkers - Country Walkers started changing the face of active travel in 1979 from a nearby barn in Waterbury,Vermont. Although they were small, their passion for the beautiful landscape of the surrounding Green Mountains became contagious. Soon they expanded their travel offerings from local to international destinations, discovering new and exotic lands around the world. In 2009 their paths lead to adventure, with 75 worldwide walking itineraries. Every trip is designed to offer the best of a locale; they walk the trails the locals walk, eat the foods they eat, and encounter the sea and sky that embrace their homelands.

  • Glacier Wilderness Guides - Glacier Guides was founded in 1983 when no one else was providing the kind of ecologically sensitive backcountry guiding and interpretation that Glacier National Park deserved. Four years later they expanded to include rafting on the area's two Wild and Scenic rivers. Today, with more than seventy guides and support people on our staff, they provide the area's most comprehensive and professional hiking, backpacking, fishing and rafting services.

  • Grand Canyon Expeditions - It’s not one of the wonders of the world for nothing. A week or more on the Colorado river with GCEX is on our bucket list especially because owners Maureen and Reed have experienced it already. They can’t wait to take the kids back, and if the unexpected happens they’ve even included provisions in their will to make sure someone else does. Grand Canyon river rafting excursions provide a unique vantage point that is as, if not more, spectacular than a view from the rim. Grand Canyon Expeditions provides one-of-a-kind rafting excursions down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon that include everything from hiking and swimming in side canyons to running class IV rapids. Let our experienced guides show you the wonders of the Grand Canyon on one of our guided raft tours. GCEX’s superb organization and guides help make this the trip of a lifetime.

  • Great Divide Nature Interpretation - Maureen and Reed met Nadine and Joel under a tarp in Zion’s Kolob Canyon and will always remember Lake Louise as one of the most beautiful lakes in the Canadian Rockies. Hiking or walking against the dramatic backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, you will discover the stories behind the scenery of Lake Louise and Banff National Park. Great Divide’s accredited Master Interpreters, Nadine Fletcher and Joel Hagen, offer guided hikes, walks and snowshoe trips that feature an equal mix of fun and learning. From flat walks to more challenging hikes, there is a trail for everyone. You might try a special theme hike or treat yourself to our chocolate mountain high: a Fondue with a View hike! Or you might consider hiring your own personal guide.

  • The Natural Playgrounds Company - The Natural Playgrounds Company® is helping to develop a whole new generation of outdoor enthusiasts by helping to design and construct natural play environments and natural playscapes for child care centers, schools, and communities. Forget the bright colors, plastic, rubber, concrete and metal… bring on the grass, the trees, the boulders, the dirt, and the bugs! The Natural Playgrounds Company combines skills in architectural design, land planning, construction, landscaping, environmental art, child education, and environmental protection to bring you cost-effective, innovative, natural designs in which children, young adults, teachers, and parents love to learn, play, and relax. Kudos for their work on The Waterbury Community Playground Playground at Thatcher Brook Primary School!

  • Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. - While it is obvious what this group specializes in, Rainier Mountaineering’s world class guides offer guided expeditions around world. There is no better way to get a taste of the mental and physical challenges of mountaineering than to benefit from their 40 years of experience in the mountains. There is no substitute for their years of expedition guiding around the world: 250 Mt. McKinley Expeditions, over 70,000 climbers on Mount Rainier and some of America's first ventures into the far reaches of the Himalaya.

  • Yamnuska Mountaineering Adventures - This group makes the list from personal experience, too. Owners Maureen and Reed had a chance to take a week long mountaineering course from Yamnuska in 2000 on the Bow Glacier – an experience they will never forget. Yamnuska Mountain is the premier provider of mountaineering, ice & rock climbing, backcountry skiing and trekking experiences in the Canadian Rockies. For over 30 years, they have hosted thousands of clients from all over the world.
