Mountaineering Backpacks

Mountaineering Backpacks - sometimes called Alpine Backpacks

These backpacks differ from backpacking packs or hiking daypacks in that they are intended for use both hiking (on approach) and while climbing technical terrain - be it easy ridge scrambling, steep rock, or ice couloirs. They tend to have simple designs and allow you to carry ice tools, axes, crampon, and climbing ropes. In general, they lack the padding of a backpacking pack and may be less comfortable for long hauls. A Climbing Pack will generally have a capacity between 15 and 25 liters, while an Alpine Backpack intended for more cold-weather use, will have a capacity between 25 and 55 liters.
